Tom Casey is the youngest of five siblings. He was born and raised in Maryland, and attended Mt. Calvery Elementary School (Forestville, MD) and Bishop McNamara High School (Forestville, MD), respectfully.

He went on to attend James Madison University, receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance. After working briefly as a real estate agent and then as a mortgage banker for nine years, Tom decided to follow his dream of becoming an attorney where he received his Juris Doctorate from the Widener University School of Law (now the Delaware School of Law), where he was a member of the Moot Court Society and won the Best Appellate brief in the National Tax Moot Court Competition.

After law school, Tom settled in Anne Arundel County where he has been a resident for over 26 years. Tom is married to Juliet and has two amazing children and a wonderful daughter-in-law. His parents, Kathleen and Michael (both deceased), immigrated to the United States from Ireland.

Tom’s father, Michael, served in the United States Air Force and later opened a local real estate company called Mike Casey Realty. Tom has two brothers, Michael, Jr. and John, two sisters, Linda and Kathy (deceased), and many wonderful nieces and nephews, most of whom are Anne Arundel County residents.

EXPERIENCED

Tom Casey is a seasoned legal professional with over twenty-seven years of experience in a variety of practice areas that will provide a solid foundation for his desire to serve as a Judge on the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County. From his time working as a prosecutor in the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office through his time as Deputy General Counsel, General Counsel, and currently, the Vice President of Legal Affairs, at the leading trade associations in agriculture, recycling, and retail Industry, respectively, Tom has embraced a principled approach in all facets of the law, using the pillars of integrity, honor, trust, and accountability as his guide in working through the many diverse legal issues he has handled.

Over his legal career, Tom has deftly handled matters in the areas of civil litigation, criminal prosecution, contracts, employment law, commercial leases, real estate, family law, corporate legal health, estates, antitrust, and operational risk management. He is a trusted advisor to corporate boards and senior executives, providing counsel on legal, business, and operational risk-based topics.

In addition to his legal experience, Tom has an entrepreneurial side in real estate, having bought, sold, and leased commercial and residential property for over 35 years. His understanding of the finer concepts of finance and real estate transactions provides yet another diverse set of qualifications and insight to draw from while serving on the bench.

Tom’s overall experience, demeanor, and unique perspective of business matters and the law will be a valuable resource to draw from in his pursuit to serve as a Judge for the Circuit Court of Anne Arundel County. 

Key Career Achievements:

  • Negotiated the sale of the domain name, FB.com, to Facebook for $8.5 Million. At that time, the sale was the third-highest recorded domain name transfer.
  • Instrumental in creating the website ScrapTheftAlert.com, where individuals can alert law enforcement and the scrap industry of crimes of metals theft in the US, a significant problem in the scrap recycling industry.
  • Collaborated on the creation of the Vibrant Communities Initiatives, a new program created by his employer, Retail Industry Leaders Association, to combat organized retail crime by sharing information among prosecutors, retailers, and law enforcement to identify and prosecute criminal networks targeting local retailers.

OUTSIDE THE LAW

In addition to his professional endeavors, Tom has played an active role in volunteerism. For example, Tom was a member of the Board of Directors at Addiction Recovery Inc. (aka Hope House) located in Anne Arundel County, an in-patient and outpatient treatment center for individuals who are experiencing substance use disorders and mental health challenges from 2011-2017. Many of the patients at Hope House were directed there through the Anne Arundel County District Court/DUI Drug Diversion Case Management Program. While he was a member of the Board, Tom was an integral part of Hope House’s acquisition of a second facility in Laurel, effectively extending its reach of care and recovery expertise.

Additionally, Tom has spent many years teaching and coaching youth sports in the community at the Davidsonville Athletic Association, the Truxton Park Youth Winter Basketball League, and the St. Mary’s Lacrosse and Field Hockey Association. Tom loved coaching youth sports and believed the time spent volunteering helped hone his interpersonal communications skills and helped keep life in perspective. In coaching at the youth level, success is not measured in wins and losses but rather in teaching children the rules, the fundamentals, fair play, and helping foster a love of the sport. Learning from life's experiences is one of the best educational tools available to us and to our youth.

During his free time, Tom also enjoys spending quality time with his family, traveling the world, exploring new destinations, playing golf, and exercising. His multifaceted approach to life reflects his well-rounded personality and his ability to balance professional excellence with personal fulfillment. With his extensive experience, unwavering integrity, and dedication to excellence, Tom Casey continues to make significant contributions to the legal profession and beyond.
